Contemporary Design
Beech House

Shand Architecture's brief for Beech House was to create a unique, one-off, house in a very contemporary style.  The house was to be built on the site of an old stone shed adjacent to an attractive lade and river.  The house has two very distinct sides:  the public face is predominantly solid - with stone from the old shed recycled in a more contemporary fashion.  Passing through the front door the house quickly lightens up from the full glass elevation facing the river. Large sliding doors open onto the riverside terrace and complete privacy.

New House, Dollar

This is a work currently in  progress with Shand Architecture.  The proposed house is about to receive planning consent.  The house plot is part of a large garden owned by our clients and when finished the house will be a very contemporary, modern and efficient family home.  The house is designed to allow all of the family to have their own space and still be open, light and airy.

New  Low Energy House, Kinross-shire

Another new house design by Shand Architecture that replaced a 1970's bungalow that did not make best use of the attractive setting and was thermally inefficient. Our brief for this house was to create a modern, highly energy efficient home. The house was to be filled with natural light and be easy to maintain.

As our clients lived overseas during much of the construction phase it was essential to maintain regular contact with them - to make sure we were interpreting their requirements correctly. This was done by a mix of drawings, 3D computer models, sketches and emails.
